4 days of rioting and New Zealand is getting HAMMERED (around 1 AM local time) with 4 earthquakes in the last hour 7.8 - 5.7 not sure when the 'echo' might hit my neck of the woods but I still think there's more 'plot twists' headed our way in the Trump/HRC saga.

NZ is up to 13 'significant' in 2.5 hours somewhat near the Capital.
up to 18 earthquakes > 4.8 over an 8 hour period now
they had 65 earthquakes over 4.0 in a 2 day span with 4 of those over 6.2

    tic tock tic tock

That's all in the South Pacific. I'm going way out on a limb now to say where I think the most damage could come from 'round here in the North Pacific.

The Pacific plate along the entire ring of fire is moving to the Northwest except the Juan de Fuca plate under Seattle is moving Northeast so naturally a regular earthquake there would be bad because they are moving at right angles away from each other in a "V" pattern causing a "shear".

Looking at the satellite image I think the biggest tsunami danger comes from Alaska
    https://www.google.com/maps/@53.5953...!5m1!1e4?hl=en

If you look at that map you can see a steep section up in the Gulf of Alaska (arm pit) just past the tip of Kayak Island; and if you zoom in to the Southeast there is another steep section of undersea hillside off Kodiak Island (the dark areas).
    https://www.google.com/maps/@56.3982...!5m1!1e4?hl=en

The gradual slopes aren't that much of a threat but both those steep areas are literally landslides waiting to happen and if either one gets triggered I think it's going to create one hell of a wave.
** If you look close on the satellite image you can actually see a faint line where the edge of previous landslides came to rest and the hillside above where it broke loose from is gradual slope now.

Any tsunami originating there will roll down the coast of Canada and straight down the barrel of the Straight of Juan de Fuca between Canada and Washington State.
    https://www.google.com/maps/@48.2790...!5m1!1e4?hl=en

When that happens the Northwest coast of all the islands off Alaska and Canada will take the biggest hit including "echo" waves bouncing from island to island; but the entire north Puget Sound will be flooded. Camano Island will take the biggest hit and everything from Anacortes to Everett, and Marysville will sustain major damage.

Of course everything along the ENTIRE Washington, Oregon, coast is going to take a direct hit and significant flooding as far south as San Francisco. Little coastal towns like Westport and Ocean Shores WA; Seaside and Cannon Beach Oregon will be gone completely because of wave amplitude caused by the rise in off-shore coastline. (like waves rolling up a boatlaunch ramp).

By the way if it happens along that section of the Kamchatka Penninsula in Russia I'd hate to be in So.Cal. because if it happens there the shelf along the Aleutian Islands is going to keep it from spreading (as far) as it normally would to the North. Kind of like using your hands as a 'megaphone' to focus your voice when you yell at someone but only on one side.

Maybe it won't happen in my lifetime. If it does it's gonna be ugly.

Hey long story short the moon is on an eliptical orbit and the perigee (the closest point) was yesterday. I think that's why NZ had 74 earthquakes over a 3 day period since it's summer in the southern hemisphere the earth is tipped more in their direction. Now it's moving away.

The next time it's going to be at the closest point to us is late May and again in late June so I think if we are going to see a major earthquake in the USA I think it's most likely to be June around the Summer solstice (22nd is when the longest day of the year occurs at the same time as lunar perigee).

I was going to add that if there was something major down by Yokohama bay (SE of Tokyo) that there would be another strong likelyhood of tsunami.

I just noticed on the news a few minutes ago there was a 7.0 due east of where the last one took out the Fukishima nuke plant.

... and 3 days after the 7.0 Japan quake on the opposite side of the Pacific there's a 7.0 'echo' near El Salvador.

Here's that little pesky Juan De Fuca plate pushing into the Northwest. What I suspect is a "zipper tear" will start either around that little bump on Northern California near Eureka (where a 6.5 hit a few minutes ago), or somewhere along those zig-zags.
